Early Foundations
My educational journey began at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, where I graduated in 1983. Those formative years instilled in me a drive to engage with the world, pursue leadership, and understand the broader impact of my actions. After high school, I attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. While there, I was fortunate to serve as the runner-up for Student Government President, an early indicator of my interest in leadership and governance. My passion for the law then led me to Southern University Law Center, where I earned my Juris Doctor in 1991. That period shaped my legal foundation, equipping me with the skills and perspective necessary to navigate complex legal and legislative challenges.
Legal Career and Professional Growth
My professional journey has been both diverse and deeply rewarding. I began as a partner at Roedel, Parsons Law Firm, honing my skills in litigation and corporate law. Later, I joined Adams and Reese, where I further expanded my legal expertise and client service approach. These experiences provided a solid foundation for understanding the nuances of law in practice, as well as the importance of building strong professional relationships.
Serving as General Counsel for the Louisiana Senate Commerce Committee was a pivotal point in my career. It allowed me to work directly with legislators and gain firsthand insight into the policymaking process. This role reinforced the value of thorough preparation, strategic communication, and ethical advocacy. It also deepened my appreciation for the impact thoughtful legislation can have on businesses and communities alike.
Launching Hayes Strategic Solutions
In 2016, I took the leap to establish Hayes Strategic Solutions LLC. Founding my own firm was a natural progression, allowing me to combine my legal expertise with lobbying and strategic advisory services. Through Hayes Strategic Solutions, I have been privileged to help clients navigate legislative environments, achieve regulatory compliance, and realize positive outcomes in complex matters. Each success for a client is not just a professional achievement but a personal fulfillment, affirming why I chose this path.
Advocacy and Lobbying: Making an Impact
Lobbying is often misunderstood, but at its core, it is about providing clear, ethical guidance to decision-makers and advocating for solutions that create meaningful impact. My years working with the Louisiana Senate Commerce Committee and in private practice have shown me that effective lobbying requires not only knowledge of the law but also an understanding of people, policy, and process. Testifying at the legislature and providing strategic counsel have been among the most rewarding aspects of my career, offering opportunities to shape legislation that benefits both clients and the broader community.
Awards and Recognition
Recognition by peers and professional organizations has been humbling. Serving as Chairman of the Young Lawyers Section in 1997 at the Baton Rouge Bar Association, being named Outstanding Young Lawyer of Louisiana in 2001 by the Louisiana State Bar Association, and receiving the Judge Joseph Keogh Award in 2002 are milestones that stand out in my career. Later, serving as President of the Baton Rouge Bar Association in 2008 and President of the Association of Louisiana Lobbyists from 2010 to 2012 allowed me to give back to the professional community that nurtured my growth. I also had the honor of serving on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana State Bar Association from 2012 to 2015 and as President of the Center for Law and Civic Education in 2010. These experiences reinforced the importance of leadership, mentorship, and advocacy beyond individual cases.
Balancing Career and Community
While my career has been a central focus, I have always sought balance through personal passions. Hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors with my Jeep provide opportunities to recharge and reflect. Traveling has broadened my perspective, while volunteering through church and bar association activities keeps me grounded in service. These pursuits remind me that success is not only measured by professional achievements but also by the connections we build and the positive impact we have on others.
